Customize most lists
A
major part of my recent efforts to allow increased customization of a
larger portion of the program. Several lists in the history and
impression modules now may have the end user add custom items. |
|
DONE |
Doctors greetings formal vs. informal
The
previous version of the program automatically assumed that you wanted to
address referring doctors by their first name. This is still the
default setting but now it is possible on a doctor by doctor basis to
specify whether that particular doctor will be addressed by first name,
last name, or other greeting. For example, Dr. William Smith can now be
greeted as either: Dear William, Dear Dr. Smith, or Dear Bill. |
|
DONE |
Add
Non ENT Drugs
The
100 most commonly prescribed drug list was used to create a new category
of drug types: Non ENT drugs. This will appear on both the history and
the past medical history modules to simplify documentation of drugs not
normally used by ENT doctors. |

Allow
age and sex to be stored with daily patient list
Previously, the age and sex of each patient could only be entered just
before the history was started for that patient. Now, if desired, the
ages and sexes of the patients may be entered when the complete list of
daily patient names is entered at the beginning of the day. |

|
DONE |
Hearing Loss and Tinnitis: Other ear symptoms list enhanced
Now

|
DONE |
Save-Dictation feature enhanced
Previous version of the Save-Dictation feature allowed you to pull up a
partially completed record and finish it with the keyboard attached.
This was fine if there was only a sentence or two to add. However, if
there were several sections to complete, it was awkward because it was
difficult to enter the section headings. Also, if there was standard
text to enter, you could not enter the information with a pen.
The new version of the Save-Dictation feature has been renamed
Save-Partial. Now when you use this button to save a partially
completed record, the patient’s name will appear on the daily patient
list with an indication - (partially complete) that indicates
that some of the information has already been entered for this patient.
When you choose such a patient from the list, the information gathered
previously will be automatically loaded and you will be brought right
into the correct module (exam, impression, etc.) to finish entering the
information with the pen. This method is also useful for getting around
the previous limitation of only having 5 active patients at a time.

Network Mode
Current
program is designed to be a single user stand alone system. I have
received numerous requests for a version of the program that can be run
on a network. This would offer the major advantage that multiple people
could work on a single patient’s record. For example, a nurse or
receptionist could input the patient’s history on one PC, the doctor
could retrieve this partial record on his pen based PC and enter the
examination findings. He would then save the record back on the network
and for example, the audiologist could enter their information.
Finally, the doctor would retrieve the record one last time to input the
impression and plan before doing the final save of the patient record.
This approach has several advantages, especially for the extremely
busy physician or the physician in a group practice. It also has some
disadvantages. For one, a network of computers is more expensive than a
single computer. A network is also more complex and would have to be
set up either by the physician or a hired consultant. Stone Enterprises
Medical Software Inc. is not in a position to offer network installation
and support services. Even if there already is a computer network in
place in the physician’s office, there is the issue of connecting the
pen based computer to the network. Current options are a wireless
network (appx. $1200 per pen based computer) or a PCMCIA network adapter
that would have to be plugged in every time data was accessed (appx.
$300 per pen based computer plus the cost of running the cables where
they need to be). |

Follow-up visit pull up summary info
Currently the follow-up visit module requires the physician to manually
enter when the patient was last seen, for what problem and the
medication given. This feature would automatically retrieve this
information from the records stored on the hard disk and automatically
generate the first few sentences of the follow-up visit report. |

Referral Letters
Previous versions of the program were somewhat limited in that there was
only one version of the referral cover letter and this could not be
customized. Now there are 4 different versions of the referral cover
letter, each customizable. In addition to the standard referral cover
letter there are additional version for a followup visit, as well as
cover letters you send to a nonreferring MD or a doctor to whom you are
referring the patient for additional treatment. Also, it is possible
now to enter the referring doctors name at the beginning of the day when
the patient names are entered. If you try to save a record without
sending a letter to the specified referring doctor, you will be prompted
with a reminder when you hit the Save Record button. |

Support for SVGA (800x600) and XVGA (1024x768) screen resolutions
If
you are running the program on a computer with a higher screen
resolution, such as one of the newer handheld Fujitsu B142 computers,
you may take full advantage of the entire screen. For example, at XVGA
resolution, there is no longer a button for “full page” because the
entire full page of the patient’s record is always visible.
|
|
DONE |
Corrected bug in editing referring doctors. If two edits were preformed
sequentially without exiting the module, sometimes, the doctors names
would be doubled. Also corrected bug for keyboard button on computer
without a software keyboard.

capability of faxing records instead of printing them. |
|

Easier
Update
Formerly, each doctor had a custom version of the program that had to be
compiled individually for each licensed doctor. Now there is only one
version of the program that uses individual software codes for each
doctor. Now you can download updated versions of the software from the
internet. You can also download updated drug databases.

DONE |
Voice
integration
Now
there is the ability to directly dictate sound files into the document
using the hand held computer itself. Clicking on a single button will
begin the dictation and expand the current record to full page view.
Once the dictation is complete, a single click on the document will
embed the sound file in the correct portion of the document. The
transcriptionist can use the program TRANSCRB.EXE (now supplied with the
program) to type in the sentences that were dictated. TRANSCRB.EXE will
automatically find the correct patient record and insert the text into
the appropriate place. This feature is designed to help those doctors
who don’t want to type in that extra 10% or so of custom information
that is not available directly from the ENT Medical Dictator.

Version 7.13 |
|

Bug
fix:

patient was misspelled as patinet in the default wording for the letter

Bug
fix:
In
nasal congestion module, if you do “other URI symptoms”, then next do
“worse on one side”, you will get the URI symptoms screen a second time
rather than the screen to pick which side is worse. |
|
DONE |
Bug
fix:
In
printing multiple page reports, sometimes the second page would break in
the middle of the page and leave the bottom on the second page blank
before resuming printing on the third page. Also, the page numbering
would number the third page as page 2. |

button. |

Previous versions would allow only one office address per user. When a
physician had two or three offices, he or she could not put different
office addresses on the letterheads very easily. Now this option can be
set every time a print job is run |
|
DONE |
Printing All Not Printed Alphabetically
The
default behavior is to print out the records in the same order they were
created. If your office has been keeping a separate set of charts
waiting dictation to be printed out, you may be keeping these charts in
alphabetical order. If so, you may now print out the records in
alphabetical order to make it easier to file the dictation.

Version 7.17 |

Bug
Fix- Incorrect extra medications listed
Occasionally, the program would insert an extra medication into the list
of medicines that the patient was taking such a “a nasal spray” or “an
antibiotic” before the list of medicines that the patient is actually
taken. This bug was corrected.
|
|
DONE |
Bug
Fix – Print by date does not mark the records as printed
Previous versions of the program would only mark records as printed yet
if you consistently used the “All not printed” button to print out the
records. If you printed out some records with the “Print by date”
button, these records would be printed out a second time when you hit
“All not printed yet”.
|
|
DONE |
Printing only Referral Letters
New
feature now allows user to print only the referral letters. Previous
versions of the program allowed you to only choose either visit notes
alone or visit notes plus referral letters. This feature was added for
those doctors who wish to print the visit notes as they go during the
day but wait until the end of the day to print out all of the referral
letters. |
